BOULDER, Colo., Jan. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sage Analytics (www.sageanalytics.com), the developers of a new generation of equipment for the testing of marijuana potency and moisture content, commented today on the recent report in the Seattle Times that claimed that marijuana potency testing "is all over the map."

State rules require a small sample tested from every lot of marijuana up to five pounds. However, some laboratory directors, pot growers and the state Liquor Control Board have reservations about the early data and seek changes to the testing system, according to the Times.

In fact, laboratory leaders said they are forming working groups to lobby the LCB for more oversight of lab methods.

The article went on to state that the problem stems from the suspicion that some growers only send prime samples to the lab for testing. "Some producers think others might be falsely boosting test results by adding THC-laden substances to their samples," the Times reported. "Retailers often use potency results as a way to advertise the quality of their marijuana. Higher test results can mean higher wholesale prices for growers."

Sage Analytics has a solution.

Sage Analytics has introduced the Luminary(TM) Profiler, a revolutionary portable cannabis measurement device that can be used inside a dispensary for point of sale accuracy and information. The Luminary provides immediate potency results so the dispensary operator knows exactly what they are selling, and their customers know exactly what they are buying. Accurate testing access for growers, regulators and customers, will create a greater understanding of potency and lead to more informed consumer purchasing decisions.

The system uses optical analytical technology, currently used by the pharmaceutical industry and other mature and developing industries such as oil and gas, food and agriculture. Its small size, affordability, and high level of accuracy, make the Luminary(TM) Profiler the ideal testing device for all types of businesses in the cannabis industry, including growers, dispensaries, edibles manufacturers, and testing labs.

"Until now, price and complexity have kept this technology beyond reach," said Matt Kaplan, President of Sage Analytics. "We have developed a cost-effective and portable platform so that now for the first time, this powerful technology is accessible to everyone in the cannabis eco-sphere, providing the foundation for more reliable test results, accurate product potency labeling, and a better-informed consumer."
