GridPoint to provide technology for new service designed for small and mid-sized commercial customers

SMUD announced today that it has launched a new Energy Management Solutions (EMS) pilot program customized for its small and mid-sized commercial customers. The new program will provide customers with automated management of energy consumption and visibility into facility and equipment health through convenient, cloud-based tools and a mobile application. This technology enables improved control of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and lighting schedules, and the ability to remotely troubleshoot equipment issues. Customers will also have access to historical energy and operational data via the cloud, making it easy to understand energy usage patterns and make operational changes that maximize savings.

SMUD has partnered with GridPoint to supply the hardware and software necessary to deliver the Energy Management Solution. GridPoint is a smart buildings technology leader that provides visibility into facility operations in order to automate and control sites, lower energy spend and proactively manage day-to-day operations. GridPoint has installed over 12,000 energy management systems nationally.

'We want to help our small and mid-sized commercial customers take control of their energy use,' said SMUD Chief Customer Officer Nicole Howard. 'By working with GridPoint on this customized energy management solution, we'll be able to provide an affordable, effective set of tools to small and medium-sized businesses that can deliver the savings large commercial and industrial users have realized for years.'

Offered as a subscription service, SMUD's Energy Management Solutions program will not require any up-front investment from the customer. The subscription model helps SMUD ensure the latest software updates are installed for all solution components and that technical support will always be available. In most cases, the energy savings provided by using the system will exceed the program's subscription costs.

SMUD Strategic Account Advisors will help interested commercial customers determine if the system will help them save energy and money. SMUD will also provide set up and technical assistance.
