(Reuters) - A Russian drone dropped explosives on a police car that was on its way to evacuate civilians in a border town in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, killing one officer, the interior minister said on Wednesday.
A video posted by the minister on Telegram that was filmed from a second police car showed an explosive device detonating on a moving vehicle in Vovchansk and a cloud of grey thick smoke.
"The invaders hit an evacuation car with an FPV (first-person view) drone. Two police officers were in the car, going to rescue civilians," minister Ihor Klymenko wrote on Telegram.
Reuters could not independently verify Klymenko's statement. There was no immediate comment from Russia.
Ukraine has been evacuating civilians from the border areas since Russia launched an offensive into the north of Kharkiv region on May 10.
The Ukrainian military says it has stabilised the situation in the region. It has said Russia is concentrating its offensive push in the east and is attacking in the region to try to stretch Ukraine's outnumbered troops.
Moscow says it wants to set up a buffer zone in the region in what it calls a response to Kyiv's shelling of Russian border regions such as Belgorod from where it frequently launches strikes on Ukraine.
