Blog: Thanks to Governor Scott Walker, Wisconsin is Working

When Governor Scott Walker took office in January 2011, Wisconsin was headed down the wrong path. Unemployment had peaked at 9.2% under the former governor and jobs were fleeing the state. Taxes were too high, and harmful red tape was strangling job creators.

Governor Walker took bold action to turn Wisconsin around. He balanced a $3.6 billion budget deficit without raising taxes; cut taxes by over $2 billion, and property taxes on the median value home will be lower in 2018 than in 2010; and he made sure that job creators have the tools needed to create jobs. Today, Wisconsin is working and moving in the right direction.

Wisconsin is Working Under Governor Scott Walker

  • Since Governor Walker took office, our state has created more than 150,000 jobs.[1]
  • There has also been a net increase of over 43,000 new businesses.[2]
  • Wisconsin has one of the highest labor force participation rates in the nation, and people are going back to work.[3]
  • At 4.2 percent, the lowest unemployment rate is the lowest since March 2001 - and below the national average.[4]
  • According to the U.S. Department of Labor, we also had more people working in Wisconsin during 2015 than at any other time in the last 20 years.[5]

The Governor remains committed to doing even more, and launching new reforms to ensure Wisconsin is working better than ever. That way everyone can have a piece of the American dream as we continue to move Wisconsin forward. To find out more go to www.wisgop.org
