REGIONAL ACCOUNTS: Gross Value Added data for the year 2017
The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announces the National Accounts results on the level of Region (NUTS II), regarding Gross Value Added for the year 2017. Data are compiled according to the European System of Accounts ESA 2010 and are consistent with the respective annual national figures.
For the entire country, Gross Value Added (GVA) in 2017 increased by 2.3% (Table 1). The biggest increase occurred in the regions of Kriti, Sterea Ellada and Notio Aigaio.

Regarding the participation of regions in the production of GVA, the biggest share is held by the region of Attiki with 47.6%; the region of Kentriki Makedonia follows with 13.7% (Graph 1).

On the basis of the regional GVA allocation and population statistics data (mid-year estimated population), the per capita regional Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is compiled. Its analysis shows increase (+2.3%) for the entire country between 2016 and 2017 (Table 2). At the regional level, the regions with significant increase are Kriti, Sterea Ellada and Attiki, while the region of Voreio Aigaio recorded a decrease.

EXPLANATORY NOTES
General: | Regional accounts provide information on basic economic variables at regional level. These are Gross |
Value Added, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), per capita GDP, gross fixed capital formation | |
(investments) and employment. Per capita GDP is estimated using the revised population in the middle | |
of the year based on 2011 census data per region. Data are also provided on regional level for | |
Households Accounts. | |

The variables concerning values are expressed in million of euro, apart from the per capita values which are expressed in euro. All the employment variables are counting number of persons.
The data of regional accounts are revised following the revisions of annual national accounts data. Additionally, they are revised when the primary data used for their compilation is revised.
The classification NACE Rev2 is applied for the breakdown of economic activities. Data are published at the level of 10 industries (A10).
All industries of economic activity are covered.
For the classification per territorial unit (geographical breakdown) the nomenclature NUTS is applied and specifically levels 0: total of the country, 1: greater geographical area, 2: region, 3: prefecture.
Regional accounts data are published in January of each year (t) referring to the data of the year t-2.
