President of Ukraine : had a phone conversation with newly appointed of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani

In the course of the phone conversation, President Petro Poroshenko congratulated Antonio Tajani on having been elected President of the European Parliament.

The Head of State expressed hope that the European Parliament would continue supporting Ukraine resolutely in the restoration of its territorial integrity and enhancement of relations with the EU.

The leaders discussed prospects of completing the procedures necessary for the introduction of the visa-free regime for Ukrainians and entry into force of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreements.

The President urged the European Parliament to endorse the proposal of the European Commission on the provision of autonomous trade preferences to Ukraine with a view to promote further diversification of Ukrainian exports in conditions of economic pressure from Russia.

The Head of State thanked the European Parliament for compliance with the policy of non-recognition of Russian annexation of Crimea and asked to actively counter repression and human rights violation carried out by Russia towards Ukrainian citizens, including Crimean Tatars. He also urged to facilitate liberation of all hostages illegally detained in Russia.
