Nassau County NY : EXECUTIVE CURRAN OVERSEES RESPONSE TO 2018’s FIRST WINTER STORM

On her fourth day in office County Executive Laura Curran toured several county facilities as county agencies are responding to today's winter storm. The storm is currently dropping upwards of 5 inches of snow across the county. Expected accumulations may exceed 8 inches before tapering off in late afternoon. Wind gusts exceeding 40 mph are expected as the system leaves tonight. Blowing snow will reduce visibility to near zero. The safest place to be is in your home.

Approximately 300 homes are without power, most of which are in North Hempstead. Roads are increasingly become dangerous as the snow continues to pile up faster than plows can clear streets. LIRR trains are beginning to experience delays. More traffic accidents are being reported. County Executive Curran urges residents to remain indoors. No one should be driving unless it is absolutely necessary, conditions outdoors are rapidly declining. 'I strongly implore all residents to stay home until our emergency vehicles and plows render driving safe once our roads are clear and accessible', the County Executive stressed.
