Bruno Serato, a CNN Hero for having served more than 600,000 meals and counting to underprivileged "motel kids," is taking a leading role in the introduction of a new app that encourages users to spend their dollars at participating local retail stores and restaurants with part of the revenue benefiting worldwide charitable concerns. SpendingShift is a first-of-its-kind "buy local" mobile platform that rewards consumers by offering up to 20% off their purchases while a portion of the sale is donated to various charities, national disaster relief efforts and community endeavors like Serato's Caterina's Club.

"You can use the app like a credit card to pay for goods and services at participating merchants," said Serato. "Simply by buying through SpendingShift, you will be saving money for yourself as well as generating funds for the charity of your choice. It's easy, costs nothing, and is an incredible opportunity to change the way we spend."

A campaign is currently being conducted to launch SpendingShift and a number of gifts and premiums are being offered for varying levels of sponsorship. The campaign ends January 31, 2014. Visit http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/spendingshift-the-kindness-platform.
