Ministry of Finance of Republic of Indonesia : Minister of Finance Renamed DGT’s Main Building After Mar’ie Muhammad

Jakarta, 19/01/2017 MoF - Today (19/01), Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati renamed the Directorate General of Taxes' (DGT) Headquarter after Mar'ie Muhammad, in commemoration of the former Minister who always upheld the principles of honesty, integrity, commitment, and loyalty in achieving Indonesia's goals and establishing immaculate Indonesia.

In her speech, the Minister expressed her gratitude to Mar'ie Muhammad's family for his devotion to the country and his inspiration that has been given to the whole Board of Ministry of Finance. 'Certainly, for me he is a tangible example. A trully role model. There is nothing impossible in this world if we are really determined and truly want to keep it. His honesty inspires me to establish (a clean) institution,'' she said.

She further demands all ranks of Ministry of Finance to follow Mar'ie Muhammad's character. 'I do hope, the building's new name could inspire us further, especially tax officers, in performing our duties to the nation without compromising or sacrificing integrity and honesty, commitment and loyalty towards the country's goals. It is a form of priceless allegiance,' added the Minister.

On the same occasion, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance Hadiyanto stated that Mar'ie Muhammad has inspired and became a role model for all employees of the Ministry of Finance. 'His example is an important thing for us to be applied. As he frequently stated that if someone is untrustworthy with money, he or she will be not trustful with other things,' said Hadiyanto .

The widow of Mar'ie, Ayu Resmayati, who also attended the inauguration, conveyed her gratitude for the appreciation. 'I can only say Alhamdulillahirabbil Allaamiin (all praise and thanks belong to Allah), thank you to all who present today, especially Mrs. Sri Mulyani who has awarded this. May Allah grants the good deed you have done,' Ayu expressed.

Prevesiously, Mar'ie Muhammad served as Minister of Finance in 1993-1998 period. He is known as a clean, simple official and a reformer. When all the people treated the absence of integrity as a common thing, Mar'ie Muhammad stood upright. His efforts earned him the title 'Mr. Clean'. (nr / rsa)
