The Comets Men's Basketball team traveled to Waldorf looking to avenge an earlier 72-70 defeat. After falling behind early, the Comets mounted a big comeback attempt that fell just short, losing 79-78.

The Comets shot the ball well, but 10 turnovers short-circuited their offense.The Warriors took full advantage of those errors and jumped out to a 40-20 lead with just over three minutes to play. The Comets were able to knock that lead down to 11 by the halftime horn, but still faced a sizable hill to climb in the second half. Mayville State took much better care of the ball in the second half and slowly ground away at the Warriors lead. With four minutes left in the game, the Comets took their first lead since the opening possession at 71-70. The teams traded points down the stretch, with as a layup tied the game at 78 with one minute left. Both teams had a chance to break the tie, but neither team could connect. With one second left, Waldorf was able to draw a foul and hit one of the free throws, providing the final margin of 79-78, The Comets shot 57% for the game, but Waldorf only turned over the ball over four times,giving them some crucial extra shots.

The loss drops the Comets record to 8-7 for the season. Mayville State wraps up their non-conference slate with Trinity Bible College on Wednesday, January 13rd.
