Mayer Brown JSM today announced that it has secured a victory for Nam Kim Steel, one of Vietnam's biggest steel companies, in an antidumping investigation initiated by Malaysia. The investigating authority ruled that Nam Kim will not have to pay antidumping duties on its exports of certain pre-painted, painted or colour coated steel coils (PPGI).

This success allows Nam Kim to enjoy a zero antidumping duty when exporting PPGI to Malaysia, and greatly reduces the company's capital spending on customs taxes, placing it in a much stronger competitive position in the Malaysia market.

'We are delighted to have successfully secured this victory for our client. This is the first time we've represented the client in antidumping cases in Malaysia. This win is a significant contribution to our growing trade practice in the Southeast Asia region,' says Hai Nguyen, Global Trade associate, Mayer Brown JSM, Vietnam. Hai co-led the case with Government & Global Trade partner Matthew McConkey.

Mayer Brown JSM is the only international law firm that has trade remedy expertise in Vietnam. The firm has been representing various Vietnamese companies, including Vinh Hoan Corporation (one of the top seafood companies in Vietnam) and the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) in the tra fish and warm water shrimp cases initiated by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Adding further strength to its capabilities in antidumping and other trade-related matters, Mayer Brown Consulting was established in 2014.
