Manufacturing in November 2016: New orders –2.5% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

WIESBADEN- Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that price-adjusted new orders in manufacturing had decreased in November 2016 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 2.5% on October 2016. For October 2016, revision of the preliminary outcome resulted in an increase of 5.0% compared with September 2016 (primary +4.9%). Price-adjusted new orders without major orders in manufacturing had decreased in November 2016 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 0.6% on October 2016.

In November 2016, domestic orders decreased by 2.8% and foreign orders by 2.3% on the previous month. New orders from the euro area were down 2.7% on the previous month, new orders from other countries decreased by 2.0% compared to October 2016.

In November 2016 the manufacturers of intermediate goods saw new orders rise by 0.5% compared with October 2016. The manufacturers of capital goods showed decreases of 4.8% on the previous month. For consumer goods, an increase in new orders of 1.5% was recorded.

Turnover +0.4% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

Enlarge pictureThe price-adjusted turnover in manufacturing in November 2016 was up a seasonally and working-day adjusted 0.4% on the previous month. In October 2016, the corrected figure shows no change to September 2016 (primary -0.1%).

The data shown here on new orders and on turnover are based on the volume index of manufacturing, seasonally and working day adjusted by means of X-12-ARIMA. New orders and turnover are covered and evaluated in accordance with the Classification of Economic Activities, 2008 edition (WZ 2008). New orders are covered only in selected economic branches of manufacturing.
