The Hon'ble Sanam Lyonpo who currently is in the eastern tour visited a dairy processing plant at Chenary, Trashigang on January 23.

The plant was established in September 2015 to commercialise the dairy processing unit on a long term sustainable model. It aims to provide farmers with a reliable outlet for their dairy products and help improve their quality of life.

The plant has a milk capacity of 4,000 litres with staff strength of 15. It receives about 1200 litres of milk a day from Buna, Rangjung, Rangshikhar, Khabti, Yenangbrangsa and Norjenthang among others.

According to a spokesperson, the plant was initially established to produce gauda cheese for both domestic and export market. However, due to lack of adequate quality milk, the plant has now started producing other products as well such as butter, cheese and yogurt among others.
