Lighting Science®, the provider of biologically-corrected lighting, is debuting new lighting products that can be controlled via Bluetooth-powered mobile apps to optimize healthy living and efficient illumination. The Rhythm Downlight fits in any standard recessed lighting housing and provides dynamic circadian lighting capabilities that automatically adjust the light's properties to optimize sleep or wakefulness, depending on the users' needs and schedule. Lighting Science is introducing the Rhythm Downlight and two other new products - an adaptable spot light and an intelligent commercial troffer - along with its Good Night TM sleep enhancing bulb and Awake & Alert TM energy enhancing light at the LVCC South Hall - Booth #26428, part of the Digital Health Summit Pavilion.

NASA astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria, commander of the International Space Station Expedition 14, will be available at the booth to discuss the science behind biologically corrected light bulbs from Lighting Science on Tuesday, January 7 from 10 am - 1 pm.

The International Space Station circumnavigates the globe every 90 minutes, meaning that astronauts experience a full day/night cycle every hour-and-a-half. The Lighting Science solutions developed to help astronauts regulate their sleep patterns in this challenging environment are now available to help consumers sleep better at night, and feel more awake and alert during the day.

  • The Rhythm Downlight features a companion mobile app that prompts the user to answer questions about his or her schedule, lifestyle and habits. The light then sets user experience based on the answers to the questionnaire. For example, at times that the user needs to begin preparing for sleep, the light will emit less "blue" light, which hampers the production of melatonin. Whether you are an early riser or a night owl, the lights will adjust to your specific rhythm rather than the sun's cycle. Rhythm Downlight will be available this summer.
  • The Revelation Spot was developed for retail environments where showing products in the right light is critical to the customer experience. The product's intelligent design allows it to understand its spectral environment and then optimize the output of the color spectrum, tuning the light to increase the vibrancy of the object.
  • Lighting Science is also launching a commercial troffer combining both of the above technologies in a commercial, ceiling fixture. The fixture can be used in office buildings for greater productivity, in healthcare institutions for patient wellness, or in hospitality facilities for a better guest experience.

"We've entered the era of intelligent lighting," said Sean Tegart, vice president at Lighting Science. "Developed to help regulate the circadian rhythms of NASA astronauts, our intelligent, dynamic lighting products harness the science behind lighting to improve health and increase workplace effectiveness and overall personal health. We're thrilled to add these exciting new products to our line of biologically-correct lighting solutions."

Lighting Science is also showing its new line of biologically corrected lighting products. The Good Night bulb promotes sleep by working with your body's natural melatonin production, unlike other light sources that can emit too much "blue" light that suppresses melatonin production. On the other end of the spectrum, research has shown that exposure to blue-enriched lighting promotes alertness, increases energy and enhances overall performance. The Awake & Alert light is optimized with an increased blue light spectrum to enhance this natural response. Good Night and Awake & Alert are priced at $69.99 and available for purchase at Lighting Science and www.homedepot.com. They will be available at other retail outlets in the Spring.
