Fundraising 'Critters' Back In Town

2016 marks the 16th year of the Cute, Cuddly Critter Campaign that benefits the Red Cross

January in the County means cold, snow, and … Critters.

Katahdin Trust Company is continuing its long-standing tradition of raising money for the American Red Cross through sales of the popular stuffed animals known as Critters.

The Critters, ranging from a nostalgic sock monkey to a prissy pink poodle, help the Red Cross provide emergency shelter, food, clothing, infant supplies, medical equipment, and recovery resources to those who experience a fire, flood or other disaster.

Red Cross services are provided at no cost to the disaster victims and are funded by generous donations from individuals, businesses, organizations and fundraisers such as Critters.

"Critter sales help us respond to a wide range of disasters," Joyce Knorr, Aroostook County Branch Manager of the Red Cross. "It might be helping a family who lost their home in a fire or opening a shelter after an ice storm knocks out power."

This marks the 16th year that Katahdin Trust has sold the Critters in its now 15 branches throughout northern Maine and exemplifies the Bank's commitment to community. Critters available through February 12, or while supplies last, for a donation of $10 each include:

  • White Bear

  • Prissy Poodle

  • Baby Giraffe

  • Sweet Lily Piggy

  • Brown Bear

  • Paisley Sock Monkey

  • RC Moose

  • Sweet Laney Lab

  • Baxter Bear

  • Saco Seal

"A disaster can happen to anyone, at any time, and we're grateful to have the Red Cross in our community," said Vicki Smith, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications at Katahdin Trust. "We're delighted that Katahdin Trust can again support these efforts through the Cute, Cuddly Critter Campaign. Our employees and customers have fun collecting the Critters, and we're especially pleased that the money goes to a very good cause to help the victims in our local area that are struck by disaster."
