During the year of 2016 the volume of shipments undertaken by vessels of North-Western Shipping Company (NWSC) (the company is a member of UCL Holding) equaled to 5.7 million tons, which is 18% higher than the volume during the corresponding period last year.

1.8 million tons (which is more than 30%) of the shipping overall was conducted by new motor vessels of NWSC - 10 vessels of DCV36 project (lead ship - 'Amethyst') and 7 vessels of RSD49 'Neva-Leader' project.

The vessels shipped cargo as follows: 1.8 million tons of grain cargo (+26%), 0.9 million tons of ferrous materials (-10%), 0.8 million tons of chemical and mineral fertilizers (at the same level shown last year), 0.25 million tons of timber cargo (-22%), 0.62 million tons of coal (+82%), 0.5 million tons of construction cargo (an 8 times increase), 0.23 million tons of non-ferrous metals (+37%), 0.15 million tons of scrap metal cargo (+9%), 0.4 million tons of other types of cargo.

The structure of shipping during the year of 2016 underwent some changes as compared to the one of the year of 2015. The rate of shipping between foreign ports declined by 8% while the rate of domestic shipping increased by 9%.

The majority of shipping - 4.1 million tons which equals to 73% - was formed by export cargo of the shipping company, its quantity growing by 21%. The majority of the exported range of items was formed by grain cargo, ferrous materials and non-ferrous metals, scrap metal cargo, coal, chemical and mineral fertilizers, timber cargo.

62% of volume (which equals to 1.12 million tons) within the structure of export shipping of grain cargo was formed by lightering (transshipment from NWSC vessels to large marine vessels from Russian ports of the Azov Sea to roads of Kavkaz port on the Black Sea), that rate exceeding the corresponding one in the year of 2015 by 35%.

The transportation between foreign ports equaling to 0.9 million tons which forms approximately 16% of the overall volume, shrank by 22% for the most part at the expense of certain types of cargo of that sector - fertilizers and hard coal, ore, timber and construction cargo.

The volume of import cargo shipping of the shipping company fell by 45% to 0.15 million tons, which was caused by the general reduction of import from European countries to Russia. The import ratio in the general volume of traffic of NWSC for the year of 2016 equaled to 2,7%.

The volume of domestic intra-Russia shipping by North-Western Shipping Company in the year of 2016 increased by 24 times and equaled to 571 thousand tons first and foremost thanks to the shipping of construction cargo (484 thousand tons) by the means of vessels of DCV36, 'Neva-Leader', 'Rusich' and 'Volzhskiy' projects. The intra-Russian domestic shipping ratio in the general volume of traffic equaled to more than 9%.
