Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement today congratulating Senator Bob Dole on receiving the Congressional Gold Medal:

'I'm honored to congratulate my dear friend Senator Bob Dole on receiving the Congressional Gold Medal. All his life, in war and peace, in good times and bad, Bob Dole has served our country with dignity and honor. Bob went to war for his country's sake, and when he came home bearing the wounds of a brave man, he had earned the right to a quiet life of personal pursuits. But he chose instead to follow his country's dreams, and dedicate his life to America's progress. We are a better country because of his service.

'At a time when our politics are ever more personal and partisan, we can all learn from Bob Dole's example of collegiality, courtesy and bipartisanship. History will remember Bob as one of Congress' truly great leaders, whose service was as honorable as it was effective, and which reflected great credit on himself, on the Congress, and on the country he loves so dearly.'
