The General Retail Trade Index at constant prices stands at -10.2%, as compared with -7.8% in November In 2012, sales in the Retail Trade Sector dropped 6.8%, as compared with 2011Sales in retail trade at constant prices (that is, after eliminating the prices effect) showed an annual variation of -10.2% in December, almost two and a half points below that registered in November.
Sales, excluding service stations, registered an annual rate of -10.1%. The breakdown of these sales by type of product showed a drop in the rate of 5.1% in Food products and
13.9% in Non-food products.
In turn, sales in service stations, after adjusting the prices effect, decreased 10.2%, as compared with December 2011.
In 2012, the General Retail Trade Index showed a variation of -6.8%, as compared with the year 2011.

The variation of the General Retail Trade Index between December and November was
22.1%. This rate showed the lowest increase in the last five years.

Performance of trade, by distribution class
All distribution classes decreased in sales, as compared with December of the previous year in annual rate. Large chain stores presented the lowest decrease (-4.4%).
In 2012, the average of sales had a negative variation, as compared with 2011 in all distribution classes.

After adjusting the calendar effect, that is, the difference between the number of working days in a given month in different years, the Retail Trade Index registered an annual rate of -
10.7% in December, almost three points below that registered in November.

Performance of employment, by distribution class
The employment index in the Retail Trade sector in December presented an annual rate of -
1.4%, one tenth above that registered in November. Employment decreased 1.3% in Service stations.
All distribution classes registered negative interannual rates, except Large chain stores that increased the unemployment 0.3% as compared with the same month of the previous year.
