Project made possible thanks to federal Gas Tax Fund

January 21, 2014 - Sarnia, Ontario

Sarnia's Donohue Bridge was recently given a facelift thanks to federal and municipal investments. Officials gathered today at the Bridge to celebrate the completion of substructure improvements to the pier columns, pier caps, slope paving and drainage system.

The improvements to this vital thoroughfare between the industrial sector and downtown Sarnia will help commuters and visitors alike move around the city safely and efficiently for years to come. The rehabilitation project, entailing the update of both the substructure and the deck of the bridge, was planned in three phases so the bridge could remain open for traffic throughout rehabilitation.

Work completed previously included the rehabilitation of the southbound lane's deck, parapet walls, streetlight, weatherproofing and wearing surface. The next phase will see improvements to the northbound deck and parapet walls.
