German jobless claims fell again in January, despite analysts expecting an increase in unemployment due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Jobless claims declined by 41,000 after falling by a revised 40,000 in December, the Federal Employment Agency said Friday. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had forecast an increase of 10,000.

The adjusted unemployment rate was at 6.0% in January and December's figure was downwardly revised to 6.0%. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal forecast January's adjusted jobless rate at 6.1%.

The number of registered job vacancies stood at 566,000 in January, down 102,000 on year, the agency said.
