School choice supporters in Omaha will screen a new documentary film and host a roundtable discussion about the need for increased education options in Nebraska on January 29, organizers announced today.

The event, which is hosted by the Platte Institute, will be held at 5:00 PM at Durham Museum. It is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week 2014, the nation's largest-ever celebration of educational opportunity.

The event will feature a screening of the 38-minute film, "The Ticket: The Many Faces of School Choice," a new documentary by award-winning filmmaker Bob Bowdon.

The film highlights the changes in the school choice landscape across the country - which has transformed from a collection of individual factions to a movement rallying around empowering all parents with the freedom to decide the right educational choices for their children. It examines school choice options in Los Angeles, Topeka, Kansas City, Chicago, Cleveland, Exton, PA and Rochester, NY.

In addition to Bowdon, speakers at the roundtable discussion will include Ken Bird, President and CEO of Avenue Scholars; Senator Scott Lautenbaugh; Jonathan Nikkila, Director of Government Affairs for American Federation of Children; and Anthony Vargas, Board Member for Nebraska Alliance for Quality Education. The moderator of the panel will be Jim Vokal, Executive Director of the Platte Institute for Economic Research.
