WIESBADEN- Good news for the users of GENESIS-Online, the database of the Federal Statistical Office: all database tables tailored to individual user needs are available free of charge with immediate effect. After registration, comprehensive tables containing several million values can be stored and updated in a personal user account. A free API (web service interface) is provided for further use of the machine-readable data.

'This is the first in a series of improvements that we are going to implement in GENESIS-Online this year', said President Dr. Georg Thiel. 'Reacting to feedback from highly different users, we will gradually offer other free services meeting open data requirements and providing new opportunities to our power users.'

GENESIS-Online comprises over 975 million values from 264 statistics on issues such as population, prices or employment. The data stock is continuously being expanded. Roughly 3.3 million tables were retrieved in 2018. The proportion of machine-readable data retrieved for further use is currently around 40%.
