Department of Finance of Canada : Finance Minister Morneau Consults Manitobans for the 2016 Budget

Minister hosts pre-budget consultations in Winnipeg on how to grow the economy to strengthen the middle class

Today in Winnipeg, Finance Minister Bill Morneau is hosting pre-budget consultations seeking ideas and comments on how best to support the middle class, grow the economy, and create long-term prosperity for all Canadians.

At the Minister's Regional Office, Minister Morneau is providing participants with a first-hand overview on the state of the economy, and engaging in discussions on the Government's plan to grow the economy.

These meetings in Winnipeg are part of a series of cross-country conversations on the 2016 budget that began in Halifax and will conclude in Surrey, B.C. on January 16. Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance François-Philippe Champagne is also hosting a series of pre-budget consultations across the country.

All Canadians are also invited to participate online by sending their comments and ideas via the website http://www.budget.gc.ca/pbc16/, on Twitter using #PBC16, as well as the Facebook page Your Money Matters - Government of Canada.

There are several ways Canadians can participate:

• Submissions can be made online.
• Canadians can also tune in to a Facebook Live event on January 15, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:50 p.m., Mountain Standard Time, hosted by the University of Calgary. Questions can be posed online on the Your Money Matters - Government of Canada Facebook page.
• Canadians can also reach out on Twitter, using the hashtag #PBC16.
