Parents and students who have benefited from K-12 scholarships will be speaking at the Scheitler Recreation Center in Berkeley Park, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27.

More than 3,100 low-income students in Colorado have received tuition assistance from scholarship organizations, allowing them to attend a private school of their choosing. Families will be sharing their stories at a celebration that includes door prizes, music, games, and refreshments. Information about scholarships will be available.

This event is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2018, which will feature more than 32,000 school choice events across all 50 states.

"For thousands of Colorado children, the best educational option is a private school. However, most low-income parents can't afford the tuition without assistance," said Pam Benigno, Director of the Independence Institute’s Education Policy Center. "During National School Choice Week we are giving a special 'shout out' to K-12 scholarship organizations and their compassionate donors who have invested millions of dollars in scholarships so that needy students are given a chance to reach their full potential."

The recreation center is located at 5031 W. 46th Ave. in Denver.

Event organizers include the Independence Institute, SchoolChoiceforKids.org, Libre Institute, ACE Scholarships, Parents Challenge, Seeds of Hope, Schmitz Family Foundation, and The Challenge Foundation.
