Collier County drivers should expect major traffic delays this weekend as race participants square off in the HITS two-day triathlon series.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office is recommending that motorists use Interstate 75 to travel north and south on Saturday and Sunday during race times to avoid delays on local roads. The race will affect parts of North Naples, Golden Gate Estates and Ave Maria.

Deputies will be stationed at every traffic light along the entire stretch of Vanderbilt Beach Road on each day. Motorists using this road could see delays as long as 40 minutes.

The race will affect traffic from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday morning along Vanderbilt Beach Road and Collier Boulevard, north of Vanderbilt. Motorists in Ave Maria can expect delays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. as the bicycle portion of the race concludes.

On Sunday, more race routes will affect traffic along Vanderbilt Beach Road at the intersections of Collier Boulevard and Golden Gate Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The final portion of the race on Sunday will affect traffic along Gulf Shore Drive from about noon to 1 p.m.
