CAGW President Tom Schatz said, “I look forward to joining this distinguished panel to discuss the perils and pitfalls of congressional earmarks. CAGW has chronicled the corrupt and wasteful history of pork-barrel earmarks for decades in our annual Congressional Pig Book, which has exposed 110,442 earmarks at a cost of $323.1 billion to taxpayers since 1991. Voters sent a clear and unmistakable message in November’s election: Drain the Swamp. The scourge of earmarks is an obvious hallmark of the Washington swamp and to resurrect the practice at all, much less mere months after the election, would be an affront to taxpayers.”
