With Congress three days into its Donald Trump-era session and the presidential inauguration two weeks away, the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) has endorsed Scott Pruitt as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator.

Pruitt, Oklahoma's attorney general, proved his understanding of agriculture-related environmental issues and aversion for federal overreach through contesting the EPA's Waters of the U.S. rule and other overregulation.

The Alabama Farmers Federation's Mitt Walker praised President-elect Trump's growing list of appointees, including Pruitt and Alabama's U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions for attorney general.

'There is real excitement in the agricultural community about working with the new administration,' said Walker, the Federation's National Legislative Programs director. 'We are particularly excited about Mr. Pruitt taking the helm at EPA and continuing his proven record of working with farmers and ranchers rather than seeing them as an adversary, unfortunately the case with the agency in recent years.'

In his endorsement letter, AFBF President Zippy Duvall applauded Pruitt's work defending Congress regarding the Clean Power Plan and cap-and-trade provisions.

Pruitt's Senate confirmation hearings are in the coming weeks. Sessions' confirmation hearings are slated for Jan. 10-11.
