7th ASEAN Competition Conference ASEAN@50: Managing Change in a Competitive ASEAN

JAKARTA, 18 January 2017 - The 7 ASEAN Competition Conference (ACC) will be held from 8-9 March 2017 in Selangor, Malaysia with the theme 'ASEAN@50: Managing Change in a Competitive ASEAN.' The ACC provides a platform for ASEAN and relevant stakeholders to network, share best practices and discuss emerging issues on Competition Policy and Law (CPL) in the region. The conference is expected to build regional awareness on the importance of CPL towards strengthening ASEAN's economic integration.

As ASEAN commemorates its 50 anniversary this year and the 10 anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN Expert Group on Competition (AEGC), the conference's theme on managing change captures the challenge of younger competition authorities in ASEAN as they move forward to the post-2015 landscape of a more competitive ASEAN. The conference will review competition policy and law developments in the region and explore its challenges, in particular for ASEAN's young competition agencies. It will also consider the implications and benefits of competition laws for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, and the means to strengthen regional cooperation.

The 7 ACC is hosted by the Malaysia Competition Commission and co-organised together with the AEGC, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area Economic Cooperation Support Programme, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, upon commission of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
