Dr. Maarten Janssen is a Research Associate at Zentrum für Europäische Wirtschaftsforschung GmbH.
He works in close cooperation with the research unit "Market Design".
He is professor of microeconomics at the University of Vienna and a research guest professor at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow.
He is also an elected foreign member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities and a research fellow of the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) in Washington, D.C..
His main academic research area is the theory of industrial organization, where he is known for his work in consumer search and auctions.
Before joining the University of Vienna he was a professor of microeconomics at Erasmus University Rotterdam and director of the Tinbergen Institute.
Under his leadership, the Vienna Graduate School of Economics was created.
He received an honorary degree in 2017 from National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow.
