It invests in the form of either equity or mezzanine, through open participations and silent partnerships. The firm targets small and mid-sized companies operating in various fields including IT/software, life sciences, new materials, micro-systems & environmental technologies. It focuses on young, innovative, technology-oriented companies, typically with revenues less than EUR 50 million. As the venture capital company of the State of Bavaria, the firm is dedicated to making investments in companies located in the said region. Investment sizes vary from fund to fund, but the firm typically invests up to EUR 250 thousand in the seed phase, EUR 2.5 million for early start-up phase, and up to EUR 8 million for later stages and expansion. It seeks to acquire minority stakes in portfolio companies and does not have a board seat requirement. It typically holds its investments for a period of 5 to 10 years. The firm acts as co-investor to other private investors (business angels, VC firms), and works closely together with High-Tech Gründerfonds GmbH.
