UniCredit is continuing to press its case for a potential acquisition of Commerzbank, having sent letters last month to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and two other members of the Berlin government in support of its proposal.
According to Süddeutsche Zeitung, which reports having seen the correspondence, the letters are dated June 18 and were also addressed to Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil and another official in the chancellery.
Among the messages sent, the newspaper adds, UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel reportedly emphasized that the German government could decide where to locate Commerzbank's headquarters.
UniCredit was not immediately available for comment.
