Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), announces that the Sentinel-1C Copernicus Earth observation satellite, for which it is prime contractor, has been successfully launched from Kourou aboard an Arianespace Vega C rocket.

Sentinel-1C will join Sentinel-1A in orbit, providing continuous images of the Earth's surface for a wide range of scientific applications, from the study of climate change to emergency aid during natural disasters.

It is also equipped with an automatic identification system, enabling it to play an essential role in maritime safety by improving traffic management, preventing collisions and monitoring ships in critical areas.
