Rio Tinto announces that it has agreed to acquire Mitsubishi Corporation's 11.65% stake in Boyne Smelters Ltd (BSL), owner of the Boyne Island aluminum smelter in Australia.
With this transaction and the recent acquisition of Sumitomo Chemical Company's 2.46% stake, Rio Tinto's shareholding in BSL will reach 73.5%.
This acquisition, the price of which remains confidential, requires the approval of Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2024.
Following these transactions, the partners in the BSL joint venture will be : Rio Tinto (73.5%), YKK Aluminium (9.50%), UACJ Australia (9.29%) and Southern Cross Aluminium (7.71%).
