National Aluminium Company Limited announced that, Shri Abhay Kumar Behuria has been appointed as Director (Finance) on the board of the company with effect from date of appointment /taking over charge of the post vide Order dated June 6, 2025 of Ministry of Mines, Government of India. Shri Abhay Kumar Behuria has assumed charge as Director (Finance) of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Shri Behuria brings with him extensive experience in financial management, strategic planning, and digital transformation.

He holds a First-Class B. Com (Hons.) degree from Utkal University and is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI). His financial acumen is further reinforced by an Executive Diploma in Business Valuation from the Board of Advanced Studies & Research, ICMAI. Prior to joining NALCO, Shri Behuria served as Executive Director (Finance & Accounts) at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Steel Authority of India Limited, where he played a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and financial growth.

Under his leadership, RSP achieved record-high EBITDA and PBT, even amid challenging market conditions. His strategic initiatives--including the closure of non-viable units, optimization of resources, and focus on cost awareness--resulted in significant savings and enhanced profitability. Shri Behuria also spearheaded several digital transformation initiatives at RSP, such as the implementation of SAP in Mines, automated invoicing systems, and vendor information management.

He was instrumental in merging two Provident Fund Trusts to improve compliance and streamline operations. His proactive approach helped resolve long-standing legal and financial issues, leading to substantial recoveries and settlements. Recognized for his exceptional performance, Shri Behuria was honored with the prestigious Jawahar Award 2013-14.

He was instrumental in strategic initiatives such as developing scheme for engaging Mines Developer cum Operator (MDO) for Taldih Iron Ore mines to achieve 7 MTPA, facilitating the execution of siding projects at Gua Ore Mines by resolving a long-standing land dispute with Railways, and revising the Standard Bidding Documents for SAIL's projects. As a core member of the SAIL Uday initiative, he contributed to the company's turnaround in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Key contributions under his leadership include the implementation of SAP in the Mines of Rourkela Steel Plant, the Vendor Information System, File tracking and processing, secondary sales invoicing automation, and an Automatic Invoice Processing system.

These initiatives have not only advanced RSP's digitalization efforts but have also transformed workplaces in terms of pace, performance, and transparency. He has also played a key role in resolving complex legal and financial issues, recovering substantial funds for the company, and settling long-pending Electricity Duty demands from the Odisha State Government through mutual agreement. Under his leadership, Rourkela Steel Plant achieved record-high EBITDA and PBT, demonstrating resilience even in challenging market conditions.

Effective preparation of RSP's Annual Accounts and its Audit has resulted in NIL CAG (Government Audit) Audit comments for the third consecutive year. Shri Behuria has joined National Aluminium Company Limited as Director (Finance) with effective June 11, 2025.
