--Mondelez International is exploring an acquisition of the U.S. chocolate maker Hershey, Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the matter.
--The tie-up would create a food-making behemoth with almost $50 billion in sales, according to the report.
--The Chicago-based Mondelez has made an initial approach about a possible merger, the sources told Bloomberg.
--Mondelez previously sought a deal with Hershey but walked away in 2016 when the chocolate maker rejected its $23 billion bid.
--A representative for Hershey declined Bloomberg's request for comment. A representative for Mondelez declined Bloomberg's requests for comment.
