FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Following Israel's attacks on Iran, Lufthansa is avoiding the region for the time being. Lufthansa Group flights to and from Tehran will be "suspended until further notice due to the current situation," said a spokeswoman for Germany's largest airline.

Lufthansa's current flight schedule includes five weekly flights from Frankfurt/Main to Tehran and in the opposite direction. "Similarly, Iranian, Iraqi, and Israeli airspace will not be used for overflights for the time being," the Lufthansa spokeswoman said.

The Lufthansa Group has not been flying to Israel since the beginning of May for security reasons. According to the airline's latest plans, the airport in Tel Aviv will not be served until June 22.

Hardly any impact at Frankfurt Airport

According to a spokeswoman for the operator Fraport, the impact of the latest escalation at Germany's largest airport in Frankfurt has been limited so far. According to her, two incoming Lufthansa flights from Tehran were canceled for Friday and Sunday, respectively, as well as an outgoing flight to Tehran scheduled for this Saturday.

In addition, according to initial information from Fraport, four aircraft from other airlines had to make stopovers in Frankfurt to refuel because the flight routes are longer due to the closure of Iranian airspace.
