On Tuesday Kering announced the acquisition of the Italian company Lenti, a move designed to strengthen its industrial capabilities in the production of sunglasses.

As a subsidiary of Safilo since 1996, Lenti specializes in molding and surface treatments for applications ranging from eyewear to visors, lighting, automotive and motorcycles.

The French luxury group explains that the acquisition marks a new step in the industrial development strategy of its Kering Eyewear division, which will now be able to bring the manufacture of "Made in Italy" sunglasses lenses in-house.

Founded in 1996 by entrepreneur Marco Negri, in partnership with the Safilo group, Lenti is based in Bergamo, northern Italy, where it currently employs around 100 people.

The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
