Kering said it acquired Italy's Lenti, building on the industrial development strategy of the luxury group's eyewear business.
The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, represents an opportunity for Kering to establish in-house capabilities for the development of Made in Italy sun lenses, the French group said Tuesday.
Lenti, which has been part of Safilo Group since 1996, has its headquarters in Italy and employs around 100 people. The company specializes in moulding and surface treatments, including sun lenses for eyewear, visors, and other protective components for lighting, and the automotive and motorcycle industries.
The deal comes just months after Kering's eyewear division signed agreements with two Italian eyewear manufacturers. It agreed to buy Visard and become a shareholder in Mistral.
At the time, Kering said the operations would enable it to strengthen its high-end eyewear portfolio, while representing a step forward in its industrial development strategy.
In May, Kering's eyewear business unveiled a partnership with Google to develop artificial intelligence-powered glasses, which will have personalized features.
