The UK government is investing 163 million euros in the satellite company Eutelsat.

This brings the total in this new financing round to 1.5 billion euros. This process is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Late last week, the British announced their investment in Eutelsat.

The UK government became involved with Eutelsat when it acquired the satellite company Oneweb https://www.emerce.nl/nieuws/oneweb-eutelsat-fuseren, in which the government had a stake.

A month ago, the French government also pledged to provide additional financial support, as did India’s Bharti Space. Other investors include the CMA CGM group and the French state fund FSP.

Eutelsat wants to expand its capacity to compete with Elon Musk’s Starlink, a broadband subsidiary of SpaceX.

In the coming years, Eutelsat is expected to seek several billion euros more to expand its network.
