(Alliance News) - Eni Spa announced Monday that Plenitude, through its subsidiary Eni New Energy US, has completed construction of the Guajillo plant, the company's largest battery storage system ever.

Located in southwest Texas in Webb County, about 20 kilometers from the city of Laredo, Guajillo has a capacity of 200MW and is equipped with lithium-ion LFP - lithium iron phosphate - batteries, capable of efficiently storing electricity generated by generating plants and making it available when market demand is greatest.

The plant was built right next to one of Plenitude's largest operating solar farms, "Corazon Solar Farm," in part to maximize operational synergies and consolidate the company's presence in the area, where it operates on a total area of about 800 hectares.

The plant is scheduled to enter commercial operation in mid-2025. Guajillo will play an important role in the stability of the local power grid, thus contributing to the efficiency of the energy system in the entire region, which is experiencing very strong growth in electricity generation from renewable sources.

Eni's stock is up 1.2 percent at EUR13.90 per share.
