Nissan's Golden Faucet Award is presented to a person or team that demonstrates initiative and assistance in the development and implementation of programs to reduce water consumption within their manufacturing site in Smyrna, Tenn. This year, NALCO Water was presented the award for several initiatives that took place during Nissan's 2015 fiscal year.
In partnership with Nissan, the NALCO Water team identified opportunities to reduce water consumption within the on-site process waste water treatment facility. City water is required in several processes within the facility to treat and clean the process waste water. NALCO Water identified processes that required more than 22 million gallons of water annually. They saw an opportunity to either eliminate or better control the city water, ultimately decreasing the water required in these processes to 8.6 million gallons annually, a reduction of 61 percent. In addition, an opportunity also was identified to reuse the treated waste water, ultimately decreasing the annual city water requirement from 22 million to 1.2 million gallons.
Jon Holland, environmental engineer for Nissan said, 'Nalco is an instrumental part of our team. Not only have they helped reduce our water demands in the waste water treatment facility, but they've helped identify other water reduction opportunities within the entire manufacturing facility. Their capabilities augment our need for environmental sustainability, so Nissan can continue to produce quality vehicles for our global customers.'
