MAGDEBURG (dpa-AFX) - There may be delays in the delivery of letters and parcels in Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony this week. The DPVKOM union is planning a 24-hour strike to put pressure on Deutsche Post in the 2025 pay round. In addition to a linear wage increase of at least 8 percent, the union is demanding a minimum increase in monthly wages of 350 euros over a period of 12 months. Around 170,000 Deutsche Post employees are expected to benefit from this.
The strike begins on Tuesday morning (7:00 a.m.). The parcel and letter center in Osterweddingen (district of Borde), the transport area and several delivery bases in the Magdeburg branch will be affected. According to the information provided, this also includes the Braunschweig, Wolfsburg and Harz areas. "As a result, up to 30,000 parcels and letters will not be delivered or transported in these areas," said a DPVKOM statement. A strike rally is scheduled to take place in front of the parcel center in Osterweddingen this afternoon (2:00 p.m.).
Holiday pay is also at stake
In addition to the across-the-board wage increase, employees are demanding the payment of vacation pay in the amount of one month's salary. "The wage demands are fully justified, as the company continues to do very well economically," the union said. It said that the postal service would only solve its serious staffing problems if it paid its employees significantly higher wages.
"A starting salary of around €2,700 gross for delivery staff is far too low given the hard working conditions in delivery," it said. The employees in the parcel and letter centers also deserve higher pay, the physically demanding work must be better valued financially./cki/DP/zb
