VILNIUS (dpa-AFX) - Following the crash of a cargo plane in Lithuania at the end of November, the authorities still have no evidence that it could have been caused intentionally. This was announced by the Ministry of Justice and the General Prosecutor's Office in Vilnius after an initial analysis of the flight recorders.

The preliminary analysis of the data from the flight data recorder and voice recorder did not indicate any unlawful interference with air traffic, they said. Together with the evidence from the crash site of the Swiftair aircraft, which had been traveling from Leipzig to Vilnius on behalf of DHL, this confirms the previous findings.

The cargo plane crashed into a residential area near Vilnius Airport on the morning of November 25 shortly before the planned landing and crashed on the ground. One of the four crew members was killed. The cause of the crash is still unknown. The Lithuanian authorities have launched an extensive investigation following the crash. It is not yet clear when this will be completed. Most recently, the authorities assumed that a comprehensive final report would probably not be completed until the end of 2025.

The flight recorders were recovered one day after the crash. The data from the two devices - each also known as a black box - had been read out in the flight recorder and avionics laboratory of the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) in Germany. The flight data recorder records the flight data, the voice recorder the conversations in the cockpit./awe/DP/mis
