Dassault Aviation has announced the signing of a letter of intent with the European Space Agency (ESA) to promote technological development in areas such as low Earth orbit (LEO) destinations, particularly around orbital vehicles.
Both parties see value in cooperating on a reduced suborbital version of VORTEX, a vehicle concept designed for space research, cargo transport to and from space stations, and a range of in-orbit services.
Amongst other things, the cooperation would focus on the design, testing, and qualification of key technologies and components, new materials and integration processes, along with the feasibility of integrating future payloads in the event of the addition of a cargo compartment.
This joint work will be based on the exchange of relevant information and the carrying out of studies or preparatory activities to help establish the respective roles and responsibilities in the implementation of potential joint activities.
