Stephen Stewart has been appointed head of M&A execution for Canada by Barclays. Stewart is headquartered in Toronto and will report to Dan Grabos, the head of M&A in the Americas, and Ryan Voegeli, the head of investment banking for Canada. Stewart is in charge of overseeing the management of the Canadian M&A investment banking division.
With over a decade of experience in investment banking, Stewart joined Barclays from TD Securities, where he most recently held the position of managing director, M&A. He began working at TD Securities in 2008 and has been instrumental in many significant deals over the course of his career. These include providing advice to the independent committee of Neighbourly Pharmacy on its $1.2 billion take-private deal with Persistence Capital Partners, to the special committee of Nuvei with its $6.3 billion take-private by Advent International, and to Dream Global REIT regarding its $6.2 billion sale to Blackstone. He provided Thomson Reuters with advice on the $27 billion sale of Refinitiv to the London Stock Exchange as well as the selling of a 55% majority stake in its Financial & Risk unit to Blackstone.
Along with advising George Weston on Choice Properties' spin-out from Loblaw, Stewart also assisted Choice Properties in its $6 billion acquisition of Canadian Real Estate Investment Trust.
