A BAE Systems artillery plant in Sheffield has been officially opened by the UK Secretary of State for Defense. The plant represents an investment of £25m.
The new facility will be operational by the end of the year. It will house a state-of-the-art factory specializing in artillery expertise, making Sheffield the home of howitzer production in the UK.
The facility will also create 200 new highly skilled jobs and support more than 60 companies in the UK supply chain.
Our significant investment builds on Sheffield's rich manufacturing history and reputation as an industrial powerhouse and will develop a highly skilled workforce in the region, while forming an important part of the UK's critical defense infrastructure, said John Borton, Managing Director, BAE Systems Weapons Systems UK.
