BAE Systems reports that HMS Glasgow, the first of eight Type 26 frigates being built by BAE Systems for the Royal Navy, has been officially named by Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales (i.e., Kate Middleton) at a ceremony in Glasgow, the city for which the ship is named.

Simon Lister, managing director of BAE Systems Naval Ships, highlighted the importance of this event in the Type 26 program, which aims to strengthen the British fleet with modern warships.

With a capacity of 6,900 tons and a length of 149 meters, the Type 26 frigates will form the backbone of the Royal Navy's surface operations.

Work is also progressing on the other ships in the series, with commissioning scheduled between 2028 and 2035.
