Aircraft lessor AerCap announced Tuesday at the Paris Air Show that it has entered into exclusive negotiations with Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) to create a joint venture to support LEAP engine operators.
AerCap said it wants to build on its existing collaboration with the Air France-KLM subsidiary in the engine leasing business to jointly own and manage a fleet of CFM International LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines.
This initiative aims to ensure the continuity of operations for the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX fleets amid significant tensions in the LEAP replacement engine market.
AFI KLM E&M, which employs more than 12,800 people, already maintains nearly 3,000 aircraft operated by 200 international and domestic airlines.
