The spotlight is on the important early afternoon data on U.S. employment, which investors are monitoring closely to reason about the monetary policy outlook.

The banking sector slows down, with Mps going negative (-0.7%) after a galloping start to new highs since September 2022, galvanized by Delfin's increase in its stake to near the 10 percent threshold, thus increasing speculative appeal on the stock.

Among the biggies Intesa Sanpaolo remains positive with a rise of 0.34 percent, while Unicredit retreats 0.3 percent. Also little moved are Bper and Banco Bpm.

Leonardo collection up 1.55%. Intermonte recalls statements by Made In Italy Minister Adolfo Urso yesterday that Baykar's plan for Piaggio Aero includes increased production activity in Italy, where the Turkish company could produce drones for the European market. The minister also confirmed ongoing evaluations for a strategic partnership between Leonardo and Baykar, the broker points out.

Money on luxury with Ferragamo up 1.4 percent and Moncler up 1.3 percent. The sector's performance could also be affected by developments on M&A after press rumors that Prada is considering buying the Versace group from U.S.-based Capri Holdings. However, a possibility that Equita considers "unlikely" because, according to the broker, "management appears focused on organic growth, with still important opportunities to extract more of the strong potential of Prada and Miu Miu."

Cues on Fincantieri, which is up 1.6 percent, and the oil sector also well on the recovery of crude oil prices as the winter season sets in. Saipem up 1 percent and Eni up 1.4 percent.

Finally, Haiki debuts sharply higher on the Euronext Growth Milan segment. The stock, which was created from the spinoff of Innovatec, opened with a 19.5 percent jump.
