GERMANY: - RECOVERY Wobbles - The significant recovery of the Dax the day before is likely to be over again on Thursday. Two hours before the Xetra start, the broker IG assessed the leading German index one percent lower at 17,433 points. By the middle of the week, the Dax had made up for its heavy losses at the beginning of the week. However, the New York stock market had already fallen again in the course of the week. Stock markets have been in choppy waters since the plunge triggered by recession worries in the USA. The reporting season, which is in full swing with quarterly figures from five DAX companies, is likely to set the tone.

USA: - LOSSES - The recovery of the US stock market from a three-day slide, which only began the day before, has already come to an end. On Wednesday, the Dow Jones Industrial benchmark index gave up its initially significant gains and closed 0.60 percent lower at 38,763.45 points. The situation was similar for the other indices. The broad-based S&P 500 closed down 0.77 percent at 5,199.50 points, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq 100 lost 1.16 percent to 17,867.37 points.

ASIA: - JAPAN WEAKENS - The stock market in Japan weakened again after its recent recovery. In Tokyo, the Nikkei index for 225 leading stocks recently fell by 0.6 percent. Concerns about a further appreciation of the yen in the event of an interest rate hike continue to cause uncertainty, even after the latest reassurance from the central bank. In China, meanwhile, share prices rose. However, movements remained muted. The tech-heavy Hang Seng Index of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region rose by 0.7 percent, while the CSI 300, which includes the 300 most important stocks on the Chinese mainland stock exchanges, gained 0.4 percent.
